I offer counselling in Tunbridge Wells and online, working with adults and also young people from Year 12 onwards.
Together we can explore the root cause of the disconnect in your life and find a way forward.
About me

Hi, I’m Sarah McMurray
I’m a qualified psychodynamic counsellor offering therapy for adults and students. A psychodynamic approach helps you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind and impulses. My practice is grounded in warmth, thoughtfulness, and consistency — creating a space where you can talk openly about whatever is troubling you, at your own pace.
I trained on a BACP-accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Through my background in education as a volunteer counsellor and my private practice, I have supported many issues including: anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, and major life upheavals including relationship breakdowns.
Who I work with
Counselling for adults
I support adults with many of life’s challenges, including grief and loss, relationship or family difficulties, work stress, burnout, low confidence, and major life transitions such as separation or bereavement.
Counselling offers time to reflect, make sense of what’s happening, and find new ways to move forward.

Counselling for students (16–25)
Student life can be exciting, but also stressful. I help students manage exam pressure, relationship changes, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, and the emotional challenges of moving away from home or ending with the support from CAMHS.
Therapy offers space to explore these experiences and build self-awareness, confidence, and resilience.
Flexibility to work with me online or in person

If it’s easier for you, I offer counselling sessions online. Many adults and students find this a good option as it allows them to talk from home or another private space. Online sessions provide the same support as meeting in person, without the need to travel.

Online via Google Meet

I also meet clients face-to-face in a quiet therapy room in the Vale Health Clinic in central Tunbridge Wells, . The room is private and comfortable, offering a calm space to talk things through.

What you can expect
Starting counselling can feel like a big step. Sessions with me are steady and consistent, giving you a regular time each week to talk things through.
You don’t have to share everything at once. We go at your pace, and you decide what feels comfortable to bring. Over time, therapy can help you feel more grounded, more self-aware, and more able to manage life’s challenges.
How to get started
Beginning counselling in Tunbridge Wells (Vale Health Clinic, 31-33 Vale Road, TN1 1BS) or online can feel like a big decision. Here’s what the first steps look like:
I offer a 50-minute assessment session for £45. This is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counselling, what you hope to gain, and to see whether my approach feels right for you. I will also explain how I work and answer any questions you may have.
If we decide to continue, we’ll agree on a regular session time. Counselling can take place online or in person in Tunbridge Wells. We’ll also discuss whether a short-term or open-ended approach would best suit your goals.
Once therapy begins, we’ll meet weekly for 50-minute sessions. Some people come for focused short-term work, while others prefer longer-term support. Together we’ll find a pace and approach that feels right for you.
