Support during a transitional time for young adults
I work with students from Year 12 onwards and throughout their university years, offering psychodynamic counselling as a space to explore and understand the emotional challenges that often arise during this stage of life.
Many young people experience anxiety, low mood, lack of motivation, self-harm, body image concerns, low self-esteem, financial pressures, or the loss of emotional support networks. Others may struggle with confidence, exam stress, friendship or relationship difficulties, or family conflict. These challenges can feel overwhelming, especially when combined with the transition to greater independence.
Leaving home for university can also stir unresolved feelings from earlier life. Psychodynamic therapy for students helps uncover the roots of these difficulties, offering insight and the opportunity to reframe patterns of thinking and behaviour. This process can lead to meaningful and lasting change, supporting resilience, self-awareness, and emotional wellbeing.
How can psychodynamic counselling help students?
Life can feel confusing sometimes—like something’s off, but you’re not sure why. Maybe you’re facing big decisions, low motivation, relationship struggles, or just feeling stuck.
Together, we’ll look at your experiences and how they might be shaping the way you think, feel, and respond to life today. This isn’t about judgment or quick fixes—it’s about understanding yourself more deeply so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
Mental health support for young people
Counselling with me is not about quick fixes. Instead, it’s about creating a steady, supportive space where you can be honest about what’s troubling you and go at your own pace.
You can expect me to:
-
Listen carefully and without judgement
-
Ask thoughtful questions to help you reflect
-
Notice patterns that may be influencing your present
-
Support you to think about what change could look like
Student Counselling
With over six years’ experience working in a busy sixth form, I have supported young people with their emotional wellbeing and mental health during some important life transitions. This includes helping students navigate exam stress, friendship difficulties, first relationships, low self-esteem, and social anxiety, as well as preparing for university and future career pathways.
In my private practice, I work with university students and young adults who may be struggling with the transition to university life, adapting to living away from home, anxiety, identity issues, lack of motivation, and the pressures of academic life. I also support graduates adjusting to life after university and the uncertainty that can come with this stage of adulthood.
Being a student is not always about academic success and an active social life. Many young people experience feelings of isolation, overwhelm, or pressure to fit in while trying to discover who they are. Having a safe, supportive, and confidential space to talk can make a real difference.
I hold a current DBS and am safeguarding trained.

How to get started
Beginning counselling in Tunbridge Wells or online can feel like a big decision. Here’s what the first steps look like:
I offer a 50-minute assessment session for £45. This is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counselling, what you hope to gain, and to see whether my approach feels right for you. I will also explain how I work and answer any questions you may have.
If we decide to continue, we’ll agree on a regular session time. Counselling can take place online or in person in Tunbridge Wells. We’ll also discuss whether a short-term or open-ended approach would best suit your goals.
Once therapy begins, we’ll meet weekly for 50-minute sessions. Some people come for focused short-term work, while others prefer longer-term support. Together we’ll find a pace and approach that feels right for you.
Flexibility to work with me online or in person

If it’s easier for you, I offer counselling sessions online. Many adults and students find this a good option as it allows them to talk from home or another private space. Online sessions provide the same support as meeting in person, without the need to travel.

I also meet clients face-to-face in a quiet therapy room in Tunbridge Wells, just a short walk from the train station. The room is private and comfortable, offering a calm space to talk things through.
