Counselling for adults and students in Tunbridge Wells and online

I’m Sarah McMurray, a qualified psychodynamic counsellor. I work with adults and students, offering weekly sessions either online or in person from my quiet, comfortable therapy room in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Many people come to counselling when they feel anxious, low, overwhelmed, or unsure how to cope with significant changes in their lives. Students often reach out during transitions such as moving away to university, facing exam stress, or adjusting to life after graduation. Adults may be managing grief, work stress, relationship difficulties, or simply a sense of being stuck.
You don’t need to have all the answers before you begin.
Counselling starts with talking.
A Counsellor who understands
Before retraining as a counsellor, I worked in the City of London for over a decade and was a Director at an international recruitment agency. That experience gave me first-hand insight into corporate pressure, long hours, and the impact of workplace culture on wellbeing, relationships, and family life.
I also spent many years working in a school sixth form supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of young people, and I volunteered with a local charity offering counselling to adults.
These experiences, including my own therapy journey, showed me how valuable it is to have a regular time and space to explore what sits beneath the surface. That belief, that change happens when we feel truly connected and listened to, is what inspired me to train as a counsellor.
My counselling approach
My approach centres on gently exploring the emotional wounds that may still affect your present life. In a calm, confidential space, we work together to understand how past experiences have shaped your current feelings and behaviours. Through this insight, healing becomes possible, along with the ability to move forward.
Whether you're facing anxiety, chronic workplace stress, bereavement, or challenges in relationships, I offer a supportive environment to help you navigate and grow.
Counselling with me is not about quick fixes. It is about building a steady, supportive relationship where you can be honest about what is troubling you and go at your own pace.
You can expect me to:
-
Listen carefully and without judgement
-
Ask thoughtful questions to help you reflect
-
Notice patterns that might be shaping your life
-
Support you in finding ways to move forward
