Psychodynamic counselling in Tunbridge Wells and online

Counselling support for adults and students with anxiety, stress, low mood and other issues.

I am a psychodynamic counsellor based Tunbridge Wells and online. I work with adults and students from Year 12 onwards who are struggling and wish to understand the cause.

About me

Sarah McMurray Counselling

Hello, I’m Sarah McMurray

I’m a qualified psychodynamic counsellor offering therapy for adults and students. A psychodynamic approach helps you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind and impulses.  My practice is grounded in thoughtfulness, and consistency — creating a space where we can explore whatever is troubling you, at your own pace.

I trained on a BACP-accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I support many issues including: anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, and major life upheavals including relationship breakdowns.

My background is in international recruitment, education and now I work independently in my private practice.

Psychodynamic Counselling - can I help?

Counselling for adults

Anxiety comes in many shapes and forms and often feels unmanageable. These overwhelming feelings often have an underlying cause - relationship or family difficulties, work stress, burnout, low confidence, and major life transitions including separation or bereavement.

Counselling offers time to reflect, make sense of what’s happening, and find new ways to move forward.

Counselling for students (16–25)

Student life can be exciting, but also very stressful. I help students manage their anxiety around exam pressure, fear of failure, relationship changes, self-esteem concerns, and the emotional challenges of graduation and the future.

Therapy offers space to explore these experiences and build self-awareness, confidence, and resilience.

Flexibility to work with me online or in person

I offer counselling sessions online to suit busy lifestyles. Many adults and students find this a good option as it allows them to talk from home or another private space. Online sessions are as effective as meeting in person.

What you can expect

Starting counselling can feel like a big step. Sessions with me are steady and consistent, giving you a regular time each week to talk things through.

You don’t have to share everything at once. We go at your pace, and you decide what feels comfortable to bring. Over time, therapy can help you feel more grounded, more self-aware, and more able to manage life’s challenges.

How to get started

Beginning counselling in Tunbridge Wells (Pantiles Chambers, 85 High St, TN1 1XP) or online can feel like a big decision. Here’s what the first steps look like:

I offer a 50-minute assessment session for £45. This is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counselling, what you hope to gain, and to see whether my approach feels right for you. I will also explain how I work and answer any questions you may have.

If we decide to continue, we’ll agree on a regular session time. Counselling can take place online or in person in Tunbridge Wells. We’ll also discuss whether a short-term or open-ended approach would best suit your goals.

Once therapy begins, we’ll meet weekly for 50-minute sessions. Some people come for focused short-term work, while others prefer longer-term support. Together we’ll find a pace and approach that feels right for you.
